Arundina graminifolia Bamboo orchids (Arundina spp.) are named because the tall stems look like bamboo and the flowers resemble the blooms of Cattleya orchids. The flowers are fragrant and attract butterflies and bees. The blooms appear intermittently throughout the year, with the heaviest blooming in the spring and summer. The flowers on bamboo orchids are white, pink, purple, lavender or mauve with yellow or purple lips. The blooms open one at a time from the top of the stems. Each flower is fragrant and 2 to 3 inches across. The plants have slender, grasslike leaves and grow 3 to 5 feet tall. Small shoots or plants form at the base of the inflorescence. The bamboo orchids are easy to grow from the orchids roots. Orchids can grow indoor and outdoor.
