The H-19 helicopter, also known as "Chickasaw", was one of the first tactical transport helicopters developed by Sikorsky in the 1940s. Designed to carry troops and materials, the H-19 was designed and manufactured with the distinctive front-mounted engine. The design was innovative for the time and optimized flight stability and manoeuvrability offering good operational versatility. It entered service in the very early 1950s and was used by the US military during the Korean War. Its good performance and high reliability were the basis for the spread of the helicopter in many countries.
